Research indicated that low academic motivation and emotional distress are detrimental to the learning and engagement of middle school students, especially those from low-income families and those just transitioning from elementary school. However, few professional development (PD) trainings exist for teachers that target the motivation and emotions of middle school students. Thus, Dr. Wang develop a PD training and test its feasibility and acceptability among teachers who teach middle and high school students in low-income communities. The training entails evidence-based instruction techniques and classroom management strategies to promote students’ academic motivation and emotion regulation.
